We love when our producers share details of each year’s harvest with us, and in 2017, Bernard Burgaud took his update to a whole new level with the domaine’s video, “The Tightrope Grapes.” In this segment, viewers get a glimpse of the unique machination involved when picking and transporting grapes on the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie. Enjoy the ride here:

Our team had the opportunity to visit Thibault Morey twice this last year at his family’s Domaine Morey-Coffinet in Chassagne-Montrachet. Thibault tasted us through his 2015s, which mark the first vintage completed by the domaine under biodynamic certification. He also took us for a tour of several of his family’s vineyard sites and spoke to us about the blessings he and his fellow winemakers enjoy in Burgundy.

Our team in Chicago–Jennie Mass, Adam Brunsen, Marc Brice, and Nick DeBias–had a full schedule last week, with Jose Teles from Niepoort, Remi Cognet from Domaine Santa Duc, and our own Martine Saunier visiting. We decided to check in and get a look at five days in the life of our reps–check it out! Monday “5:45 AM Woken up by my black cat Momo. Steps on my face, stomps on papers. Cat is fed. Done! Most important part of the day–coffee prepared by my Dutch hand made coffee machine: The Moccamaster. 6:45 AM Time to go to my Cross-Fit class. I…

As the 2015s from our Burgundy producers continue to roll in, we take a look inside Domaine Launay-Horiot with vigneron Xavier Horiot. A former fighter pilot for the French government, Horiot returned to his family home in Pommard to continue the winemaking tradition of his grandfather, Raymond Launay. His stunning first vintage of 2014s were released last year, and the 2015s have already won widespread acclaim and will be arriving stateside this fall.

In this final segment of our interview with Romain Taupenot, the vigneron outlines key moments in his winemaking process, while also reflecting on his journey through wine and the future of his family’s domaine. The 2015s from Domaine Taupenot-Merme have arrived and are now available exclusively from Martine’s Wines. What are the toughest decisions you make as a winemaker? Above all else, winemaking is a thoughtful and meticulous enterprise at each stage, from the vine to the bottle. Winemakers can be similar to some chefs who cook with the finest ingredients, complete all the steps of preparation, but ultimately ruin…

We were able to sit down and talk with Noah Dorrance of Reeve Wines just last week as he and his crew prepared for the upcoming harvest here in California. During the course of our visit, Noah spoke glowingly of his adopted state of California, explaining how the tradition or spirit of the place truly fueled his pursuit of creating something new with Reeve Wines.

In this segment of “Interview with the Vigneron,” Romain Taupenot discusses style versus expression, his evolution as a winemaker, organic farming, and the challenges that face domaines in Burgundy today. What sets your wines apart from the greater story/traditions of Burgundy? There have been key developments and innovations in the areas of viticulture and winemaking in the last few decades, making it possible to produce great wines that I dare say are rather technical, more standardized, and somewhat deprived of their racy authenticity. My desire is not to yield to the trappings of crafting easy, technical wines. I look to…

Cortney Lease, Western Regional Sales Manager for Martine’s Wines, is a regular attendee of the International Pinot Noir Celebration (IPNC) in McMinnville, OR. Following this year’s festivities–which concluded just over one week ago–we asked Cortney to reflect on her experiences at this one-of-a-kind event. Enjoy! My voice is hoarse and my feet hurt, not-so-subtle reminders that I have just worked the IPNC. Across four days, I may have slept 14 hours in all, and I know I look like a rangy mouse the cat dragged in. But I’m so happy right now…this is the best kind of tired! Every year…
