Nat’Cool is a creation born from the innovative mind of Dirk Niepoort. This legend in the Portuguese wine industry responded to a growing demand—both locally and internationally—for wines that are fun, approachable, naturally made, and perfect for everyday enjoyment—whether at home, by the glass in a restaurant, or out on a sunny picnic.
The journey began in Bairrada, working with the native grape variety, Baga. Traditionally known for producing big, dark, and tannic reds, Baga was reimagined by Dirk into something entirely new: fresh, vibrant, glou-glou-style wine. Bottled in playful one-liter formats, these wines feature just 12% alcohol and minimal sulfur—a refreshing twist on a classic grape variety.
Since then, the Nat’Cool family has grown with the addition of a white wine from Vinho Verde. But this isn’t your typical Vinho Verde. Essentially a low-pressure Pet-Nat, it brings to mind the spritzy charm of Txakoli. Bottled with a touch of residual sugar that finishes fermenting in the bottle, it creates a soft, natural fizz—a nod to 19th and early 20th-century winemaking traditions in the region. Unfiltered and non-disgorged, it carries a bit of sediment. Let it settle—or do as Dirk does and give it a swirl for a complex, leesy, and delicious experience. It’s Vinho Verde with a bold, playful spirit!
