Decanted
From the reaches of northern Burgundy, Clément Lavallée is crafting wines of remarkable balance and precision—bottles that are as elegant as they are effortless to drink. It’s a combination that has earned him a devoted following in remarkably little time—especially impressive given that momentum in Burgundy usually builds slowly. Generations pass before a new domaine earns the trust of wine lovers and collectors, and reputations are often measured in decades and eras, not singular vintages. But every so often, someone comes along whose talent is immediately obvious. Clément Lavallée is one of those people.
At only 15 years old, this Chablis-native set out to learn from some of the most respected winemakers and estates in the world – think Armand Heitz, Château Margaux, Domaine Chapoutier, and even Australia’s Rutherglen. Upon returning home, Clément founded his own eponymous domaine with his sister Caroline. Together, they farm ~14 hectares across northern Burgundy, all organically, entirely by hand and employing low-intervention methods.
Though his first vintage was only in 2019, Lavallée’s wines have already become extremely sought-after in France, featured on top Paris lists. We love that they’re currently available at L’Épicerie Tour d’Argent, the retail arm of one of the city’s most iconic Michelin-starred restaurants. And seeing that he’s still in his early 30s, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
These wines are a joy to drink young and will be wonderful over the holidays, or can be set aside in your cellar for future drinking.
“One of my most exciting discoveries in Chablis and the Auxerrois was fledgling Domaine Clément Lavallée… Textural but incisive, pure and penetrating, I was immensely impressed by these young wines—from pungently mineral Chablis, to perfumed and intense reds…everything here comes warmly recommended, and I encourage importers to beat a path to this new domaine’s door.” -William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Clément Lavallée Chablis Chante Merle 2022
Sourced from 32-year-old vines in Kimmeridgian limestone. 40% aged in stainless steel and 60% in neutral oak to balance texture and freshness. Bright and expressive with a pervasive mineral core.
Clément Lavallée Irancy Les Ronces 2022
Tucked just southwest of Chablis, Irancy is one of Burgundy’s northernmost red-wine appellations—a tiny amphitheater of limestone slopes known for Pinot Noirs with striking freshness and perfume. From vines planted in the 1970s and aged for two years in barrel, Les Ronces shows lifted aromas of rose and red fruit, with vibrant acidity and fine tannins.
