Limited Release
Thibault’s early work earned him praise among his peers as a rising star in a region with no shortage of talent, and over the years, that praise has proven prescient. He can now be counted among the finest vignerons in Burgundy. That standing is why we’re so excited to present his latest release, which came from a vintage that pushed vignerons to their mental limits and vineyard workers to exhaustion. For that reason, our recommended approach to the 2024s is a narrow one: focus on the best quality-minded producers, and Thibault is at the top of that list.
View from the cellar at Morey-Coffinet demonstrating the modest production of this incredible domaine.
A few notes on the vintage:
• The vineyards on the mid-to-upper slopes handled the rain best, playing to the domaine’s excellent holdings in premier and grand cru.
• Thibault’s biodynamic approach and decisions such as mowing cover crops rather than tilling allowed the team to get into the vineyards as many as 19 times to treat the vines and bring in healthy fruit.
• The wines are terroir-driven and fresh, excellent additions to any serious Burgundy collection.
• Drinking windows will open relatively early, giving the ’22s and ’23s room to continue developing alongside them.
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Caillerets 2024
From a 0.65 hectare parcel near the top of the slope south of the village, of which the upper part is the steepest vineyard in Chassagne. Vines planted in 1985-1990.
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 2024
Archaeological findings confirm the ancient village of Chassagne used to be occupied by a Roman society. The Romans planted the vines and built the city, hence the name “Romanée.” From a 0.81 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1957 at a higher altitude of Chassagne, protected from the north wind by a stand of trees.
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly 2024
Vines were planted in 1959. The parcel is surrounded on two sides by Chevalier-Montrachet; beneath the parcel of Murgers Dent de Chien.
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2024
Right at the limit of Charmes, on the north side of Puligny-Montrachet.
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2024
This is the only appellation located outside the village of Chassagne-Montrachet where Morey-Coffinet owns vines. From a 0.19 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1999, located right next to Clos de la Pucelle
Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru 2024
When Dr. Jules Lavalle set to classify the vineyards of Burgundy in 1855, he considered Les Perrières to be the best white wine vineyard after the Montrachets. While still technically a 1er Cru, it is Grand Cru in quality and combines the best attributes of neighboring Charmes and Genevrières.
Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024
From a well-situated plot, a 0.13 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1996 at the top of the vineyard, located on the Chassagne side.
