Decanted
This week, one of our most sought-after producers. Domaine Morey-Coffinet is synonymous with exceptional white Burgundy, and its allocated wines have waiting lists across our markets. For our private clients, we are highlighting three whites from the newly arrived 2024s.
Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, the domaine encompasses just nine hectares, including some of the village’s most celebrated premier cru vineyards and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru. Thibault Morey took over for his dad in 2009, and his early work earned him praise as a rising star in a region with no shortage of talent. Over the years, that praise has proven prescient: he can now be counted among Burgundy’s finest vignerons.
That dedication mattered enormously in 2024. Persistent rain pushed vineyard teams to exhaustion, and decisions such as mowing cover crops rather than tilling helped Thibault’s team maintain access to the vines. They made as many as 19 passes through the vineyards to treat them and bring in healthy fruit. In a demanding vintage like this, our approach is to focus on the most thoughtful, quality-minded producers—and Thibault is at the top of that list.
The three wines below offer a look at Thibault’s 2024s, from Chardonnay grown within Chassagne’s village boundaries to the neighboring appellation of Ladoix. Whether Morey-Coffinet is already a favorite in your cellar or you’re trying the wines for the first time, these regional and village wines offer a chance to explore beyond its celebrated premier and grand crus, with the same thoughtful craftsmanship. They are available individually or as a six-pack, so please let us know if you are interested!
