Tertre Roteboeuf Saint Émilion Grand Cru
Tertre Rotebouef produces wine that is like no other in Bordeaux. The wines from this 6-hectare St-Emilion Grand Cru vineyard are lauded time and again as some of the most singular in all of France. This is down to the vision of proprietor François Mijtavile, who has been at the head of the estate since 1978. The ’86 is a fully mature example of Mitjavile’s earliest vintages implementing his new style. The 2007 is an incredible success story that beat the odds of the vintage. The 2008 is a gorgeous, almost Burgundian style and François considers the 2010 one of the greatest wines he has ever made.
Roc de Cambes Côtes de Bourg
Roc de Cambes’ south-facing amphitheater vineyard sits along the first and finest of three successive banks along the Gironde River in Bourg. The heat here is tempered by the regulatory effect of the river, which shields the vineyards from extremes of temperature and encourages even ripening. 30+-year-old vines are planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon on terroir similar to Tetre-Rôtebouef’s, which intrigued François. The following gives an incredible look at the evolution of this property and its ability to evolve and mature over time.
