Limited Release
Bernard-Bonin has arguably become one of the most sought-after producers in our portfolio, let alone Burgundy. Greg and I had a chance to visit with them last November and these were without question the most impressive white wines of the entire trip. Powerful, yet balanced, fleshy and mineral, but absolutely off the charts in terms of energy, this domaine is making the case for the number 1 spot in Meursault. Nothing against Coche, Ente and Roulot, but Bernard-Bonin is definitely in the same conversation at this point.
The 2023 vintage delivered a bit more in terms of volume (finally!), and as such an incredible supporter of Martine’s, we wanted to offer a selection at prices that remain competitive with the previous release. Despite ongoing tariff pressures affecting imported Burgundy, we’ve absorbed these additional costs to maintain accessibility for our valued clients.
About the Domaine
Since 1998, Domaine Bernard-Bonin has been run impeccably by Nicolas Bernard and Veronique Bonin, a daughter of the well-known Michelot family. The talented couple own and cultivate 7 hectares, including vineyards in Meursault, Meursault 1er Cru, and Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru. Nicolas follows time-honored winegrowing traditions; hand-harvesting, respecting the phases of the moon and employing minimal intervention in the cellar. Each wine expresses a personality derived from its terroir, its character fashioned by the climatic variances of the year, with the premier cru vineyards harvested last. The wines are aged in oak barrels for 15–18 months. During this time, each barrel is tasted individually to determine the optimum exchange between wine and lees, with no sulfur additions, only active CO2 to protect the wine in the barrel. The lees are stirred at the beginning stages of malolactic fermentation, which keeps the lees in suspension, and the wine reaches approximately 3g/L of residual sugar. There is no racking of the wines during élevage, and only one racking before going into tank in December for four months before bottling in March. Once the lees settle entirely, there is no more bâtonnage after April/May.
In synchronization with the lunar calendar, the wines are racked just before bottling to ensure a natural crystal clear and stable state, thus avoiding fining and filtration. The long barrel aging process allows for fully dry wines below 1g/L r.s. The wines continue to mature in the bottle, and the results carry the characteristics of the finest wines of Meursault: exquisitely fresh, rich, mineral, and vibrant.

Bourgogne Blanc Initiales B.B. 2023
Persistent, intense and energetic on the palate from a parcel nestling in between Meursault & Puligny. Excellent introduction to the house style.
Meursault La Rencontre 2023
Intensely mineral with lots of verve. Less than 1 hectare vineyard from two very rocky, flat vineyards: Sous la Velle and Les Pelles, both planted with old vines of over 75 years old.
Meursault Clos du Cromin 2023
A softer, slightly more charming style like a smaller scalled version to their Meursault Charmes. South-southeast facing parcel, at the border of Volnay-Santenots. Clos du Cromin was planted to red grapes until 1971, when the Bonin family replanted the site to Chardonnay. A 10ha lieu-dit that was once a stone quarry, the Bonin’s plot is at the upper-slope of the vineyard with a thinner topsoil.
Meursault Le Limozin 2023
This starts to enter almost into 1er Cru quality. Wow. Bordering two premier crus (les Charmes-Dessous and les Genevrières-Dessous), le Limozin vineyard is situated on an east-southeast facing slope.
Meursault Les Tillets 2023
A wine of real tension and energy in need of some aging. This is a steep, rocky high altitude site above the 1er Cru vineyards (in this case perched above Bouchères). Vines planted between 1950s to 1980s.
Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrieres 2023
A real classic. This is a very complete Meursault earning its 1er Cru status whose structure makes this a strong candidate for the aging cellar.
Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes du Milieu 2023
From a plot owned by Véronique’s aunt until 2021. In the heart of the Charmes cru, near the path that separates Charmes-Dessus and Charmes-Dessous, adjoining Les Referts. Very stony soils rich in iron oxides.
Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus 2023
Located at an altitude of 260 meters on a south-east facing parcel. Uniquely labeled as Dessus, or the upper (better) section of the Charmes 1er cru. More limestone in this section caused by tectonic plate movement that separated the Dessus (better) from the Dessous (lesser) parcels.
Puligny-Montrachet Cuvée La Romance 2023
Plush with lots of curvature and just so put together. Catastrophic losses due to frost were felt by many vignerons in 2021, and the hardest hit areas were the earlier budding Premier and Grand Crus. Nicolas and Veronique were only able to make one barrel of 1er Les Folatieres and 1er Cru Les Garennes, so they blended them together to create La Romance. It proved to be a revelation and they felt that nature spoke to them in the creation of this new wine, so they will honor that by continuing this practice moving forward.
