Martine’s Wines is thrilled that some of the country’s top sommeliers have selected seven bottles from five producers in our portfolio to feature at the New York City debut of  La Paulée Off Grid, A Tasting of Burgundy’s Hidden Gems. The event will be held next Tuesday, February 24th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at City Winery, 155 Varick Street, New York, New York 10013. More details and a link to purchase tickets can be found here.

What is the right occasion to drink this wine? These are nice wines that you can treat yourself by opening any night of the week without breaking the bank. They are special but not so costly, great to have in the house for when you need a good glass of Burgundy but don’t want to clear out the count to get it!

 Have you tried other wines by this producer? Unfortunately I’ve only had these, but based on the quality, I would like to try others!  

Which dish from your restaurant pairs best with it? For the Mercurey Blanc I’d love to have Scallop Crudo at L’Artusi and for the Mercury Rouge the roast chicken at L’Apicio would be ideal.

Garnier & Fils Chablis 1er cru Mont de Milieu 2013

What is the right occasion to drink this wine? Whats great about this wine is that it’s versatile yet complex. It has all of the classic Chablis characteristics: lemon, seashell, lots of minerality and freshness, yet it’s serious.  I’d drink it anytime, but it’s a great match with any sort of richer seafood dishes. 

Have you tried other wines by this producer?  Yes, the 2012 Chablis AC, which is a great value!  I’m really looking forward to trying the grand Crus. 

Which dish from your restaurant pairs best with it? We have a celery root ‘risotto’ made with celery root (no rice involved), squid and squid ink. It’s full of earthy and briny flavors and this Chablis elevates it to another level.

Morey-Coffinet Saint-Romain 2013

MOCO-SRWhat is the right occasion to drink this wine? I think this is a great example of an “everyday” white burgundy. Morey-Coffinet is a fantastic producer and their Saint-Romain offers a value driven alternative to their Premier Cru bottles in Chassagne and Puligny.

Have you tried other wines by this producer?  Yes, I have worked with these wines for a while now. Everything from their Bourgogne Blanc to their Batard Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne.

Which dish from your restaurant pairs best with it?  Our Roasted Chicken with Celery Root and Caramelized Buttermilk.
